Had the same problem with a Compaq Armada M700... Have you tried, as a
"work a round" to add install line to the /etc/modprobe.conf like the
one below?

alias eth0 <net-driver>
install <net-driver> /sbin/modprobe yenta_socket; /sbin/modprobe
--ignore-install <net-driver>
