sound driver not automatically loaded, why not?

On my new fc2t2 amd64 setup, the sound driver snd_via82xx is not
automatically loaded.  I can manually load it, and then sound seems OK.

modprobe.conf says:
alias sound-slot-0 snd-via82xx
install snd-via82xx /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-via82xx \
&& /usr/sbin/alsactl restore >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
remove snd-via82xx { /usr/sbin/alsactl store >/dev/null 2>&1 \
|| : ; }; /sbin/modprobe -r --ignore-remove snd-via82xx

Is something more needed?
