The problem for me seems to worsen if I use the AGPGART.  I've seen this 
problem off and on with Linux for a few years now.  I still have the same 
hardware, just different kernels and nvidia drivers.  I can play OpenGL games 
all day long.  I only seem to lockup (99% CPU by X) on the desktop.
