Yum and slocate

I am new to this list so do not know if this has been discussed yet or
not.  I have loaded Core2 Test 2 and am having continual problems with
yum update.

This is as root.

I also have had problems with slocate:
[root at Aragorn root]# slocate -u
fatal error: slocate: create_db: fopen:
'/var/lib/slocate/slocate.db.tmp': Permission denied

any comments or suggestions?
