"yum list updates" error on (apparently) first time for this

   my aforementioned little dell latitude running FC3t1 has apparently 
had yum updates disabled all this time, so i turned it on and did my 
first "yum list updates", with the absolutely original /etc/yum.conf 
file that came with the OS.

   and got:

   Damaged or Bad header.info from Fedora Core 2.90 - Development Tree
   ...

i'm just about to check bugzilla for this.  is this a known and 
resolved issue?
