Inspiron 1100 troubles

The 845 patch, available at
http://geocities.com/randomnumbergenerator2001/ fixed things.  I
thought that it only manipulated XF86Config, but that is not the case.

Trawl through the /var/log/XFree86.0.log stuff looking for earlier
errors.  vi 
will let you page through it.
