After X.org update X won't start

After installing the xorg-x11*.rpms, editing /etc/ld.so.conf and
running ldconfig 'startx' aborts with the follwing message:

Could not init font path element unix/:7100, removing from list!

Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'

So the automatic updating slips up somewhere?
