Random(ish) keyboard locks

Hi,

Not sure if it's an XFree86 4.4 problem (which was compiled from source)
or xorg x11 problem.

When users log out, the keyboard sometimes locks. No response at all.
The machine hasn't locked, the mouse still works and so it can be reset.

Any clues as to what is the problem and if it's an XFree86 problem, is
there a safe way I can remove both the xf86 and xorg stuff and then
reinstall the xorg rpms?
