Yes, once I got to the point where 2.6.3 would boot I tried the via
driver.  I'm lots of experience with manually editing XF86config :-(

On my SuSE box I have a "customised" version of the via driver to
produce the appropriate refresh rates to make my monitor recognise
1280x768.
