Intel i8x0 audio issue

It works on first try as well. I assume that you're using KDE as i
experience the same behaviour on my installation. KDE uses sound system
exclusively and releases it only after 60 sec (by default or depending on
your settings). So if you click on "Play Test Sound" and leave it for a
while sound comes back eventually.
However, i don't think it is has something to do with the mixer settings. I
have an impression that my ALSA does not work at all and using this woodoo
sequence actually creates the sound through something else.

work. I have to click it twice. The second time the sound works. But this
seems to be reset on every reboot, the alsa mixer settings seem to not be
being saved correctly. To get sound working again after a reboot I have been
able to use the System Settings -> Soundcard Detection Tool. Sometimes it
works on the first try, sometimes on the second try.
