I totally agree with what you are saying.  No argument here.  However,
in the absence of drivers and driver information, ndiswrapper works
pretty well. 

This email is being sent from my kitchen through a broadcom card and
ndiswrapper to a wireless router located at my neighbors. (We share
it.)
