problem with accessing users home directory

I have a FC3 server running samba with various workstations

One user ID (not workstation specific) will connect to group share but
not their home share.

The situation is the same testing on the server ie:

smbmount //data_cc/user data2

it appearsto mount but I get this with ls -l

?---------  ? ?     ?          ?            ? data
?---------  ? ?     ?          ?            ? data1
?---------  ? ?     ?          ?            ? data2

any ideas
