Samba SMBFS

I am trying to connect to a samba share from fedora core 3 test 3 and
it just times out everytime. I have tried to manually mount the share
with no luck? Is smbfs broken or is it just me? I can browse those
shares from any other box but this new install of fedora core 3 test
3. I would aslo like to know why the cd/dvd drive I have has been put
into fstab as /media/cdrw_dvdrom instead of /cdrom ?
