I think it was chosen for being the default gnome browser - ie the
browser which are tigthest integrated into gnome. (MIME-types etc. Makes
it quite much easyer to use ;) ). In reallity, epiphany is just a
rebranded mozilla.

If you dont like it, change it. Firefox, original mozilla, konqueror, an
probably a few more are included.
