xconfig compiler errors

Hi, all. I often need to compile a vanilla kernel from kernel.org and I 
like to use 'xconfig'. When I try to use 'xconfig', I get this error.
# make xconfig

I have qt installed. For that matter, menuconfig doesn't work either. I 
get this message;

I can use 'make config', but that is extremely tedious. Any suggestions?
