AC97 sound card needs "external amp" ?

I've found you need to ensure the "Headphone Jack Sense"
switch is "muted", using eg. alsamixer / kmix to get
any audio at all. You can store this setting with 
'alsactl store' and restore it in /etc/rc.local with 
'alsactl restore'.
