cups upgrades

[Kim Lux]

I've got a worse problem with cups.  Somewhere along the upgrade path I
not only lost the printer config, but now I cannot get a printer re
installed.  Kudzu isn't seeing the printer and I can't get cups to
successfully print a test page. 

Any ideas on how to fix this situation ?

The printer is a Lexmark parallel port Optra S.
