Since bugzilla seems to be down - This is actually an X bug.  I compiled
the bits on my fc2 Frankenstein box and the animations are smooth.  It
may be because of the size of the animations which are bigger than the
former hourglass animation. On Monday I will try a few things and then
file a bug on the X server.
