Historically?  How old is extras been around in this supported form? 
I don't think either one of you know what you are talking about, if
there is something out dated, how about you send a patch in or a
package that isn't being maintained, how about you take it on?

 The developers have been putting a lot of time in this to make extras
a FIRST class citizen so why don't you hug your local extras developer
today :)
