<crtl><alt><F*> not working

I removed the  rhgb from /etc/grub but still can not get to consoles

this is my /etc/grub.conf

can not get a prompt at <ctrl><alt><F*>   all I get is a screen with a
green border from the top left down to the bottom right

oh well
