Firefox - why is it better?

Ok, I agree downloading as root has dangers. I normally don't do it. But the fact is
no matter who you run it as you can not have the downloads go into your home directory,
in my experience. But I am willing to learn. If someone can tell me how to do it I
would be grateful.
