In our Toshiba laptop, we have the same controller.  Both SATA, even 
though the specs when we ordered said IDE.  The model numbers from the 
hardware browser both show SATA models.  The different models caused me 
headaches due to this same problem.  Both work like a dream with FC4.

Get the latest kernel first and search Google for ICH6 flags to set.
