while i really didn't want to add anything further to this thread,
just a few more brief observations:

1) if, as some people have justifiably claimed, the label of
"Everything" might be ambiguous (does that mean everything on
accompanying CDs as well?), then just change the label to "All of the
above."  problem solved, OK?

2) there is no "cost" or "danger" associated with such a button.
given that you would (theoretically) get *exactly* the same effect by
just selecting all of the visible boxes that are already there, you
simply can't make that argument, so please stop.  you're just
embarrassing yourself.

3) on the other hand, there is most *assuredly* a cost with removing
that button, and that is that it annoys some users by forcing them to
do more work than they would have to otherwise.  and, yes, that's a
cost.  deal with it.

4) finally, if this is already a done deal and the button has been
removed and it's non-negotiable, please make that clear so all of us
can stop wasting our time and just move on.  it would be just plain
cruel to have let this thread go on this long if it was all utterly
pointless from the beginning.
