GRUB not written to MBR - rewrite problem

	I wouldn't do that. This image is 512 byte long so it will overwrite 
partition table. What is more, GRUB uses also *_stage1_5 files, which 
are installed _after_ MBR. Without it GRUB may not be able to read 
kernel images.
