Indeed, but while this makes sense if this is needed by some "leaf"
(meaning something which you are ultimately using) packages it is
difficult to find a good reason to have both gimp.x86_64 and
gimp.i386 installed.  Well, maybe if you would have some unique and
indispensable plugins some of which were available only as i386
binaries and some other only in x86_64.  Then you have bigger
headaches than some conflicts.

In any case if such packages share files (which is much more often
the case than not) then they have to be updated "in pairs" or you
will get hit by conflicts which can be ignored, if you really
wish to that, with a help of 'rpm --replacefiles ...'.
