I tried upgrading to kernel-2.6.18-1.2747 and am having the same problem. Below is the error in the nvidia-installer.log file I am seeing.

I am getting the same error building for x86_64. It is compalining about
config.h being missing. (I don't have the exact message on hand as my
laptop is at home.)

This needs to be posted on the forums at nvidia.com, if it has not
already.
