Kernel 2.6.18-1.2200 beeps too often

I disabled it via gnome and gdm:

For Gnome:
system > preferences > sounds > System Beep

and for the startup run gdmsetup and turn sound off in the Accessibility tag.

I am pretty satified with the result. BTW, I use the visual bell of compiz, 
which I found as useful as the beep, but far less disturbing.
