The fundamental problem is in the python implementation of signals and
its interaction with threading, see bug report for details.

There is a proposed patch for python

right now it appears to be in limbo, possibly waiting for Python 2.6, if
you really want to address power consumption for laptops then lobby
pydev to apply the patch or find a preferred solution.
