No build environment on F7T1 desktop spin?

While I saw the previous complaint about gcc, it is really more than that.
The Desktop spin should come with a build environment suitable for doing
the normal ./configure; make; make install way of building downloaded source
packages. You don't need to be a high powered developer to do that.
It also lowers the barrier of entry for people that want to try new stuff.
