I have found a work around, not sure if it was stated in a bug or not, but
anyway.

I booted the livecd(x64)
graphics bailed (duh)
vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf
added Modes "800x600" to the Display section

        SubSection "Display"
                Depth 24
                Modes "800x600"
        EndSubSection

startx

And I'm trying an install now.
