Yea!  Back in the game with:

[root at P4C800ED ~]# uname -r
2.6.23-0.149.rc4.fc8
[root at P4C800ED ~]# rpm -q mkinitrd nash
mkinitrd-6.0.14-1.fc8
nash-6.0.14-1.fc8


Seems mkinitrd is a constantly troubled package in Fedora tests/rawhide....
