How to download a file without installing?

Only possible if Ctrl-Alt-F1 works.  I can't get konsole to run.  Maybe a 
buggy package in need of updating, or perhaps more likely not enough free 
resources to run it.  If I can I'll get that package installed, just to test 
whether the fix works, but after that I'll give up on it.
