"codec 0 is not valid" question

I do not have any speakers attached to my test system so I do
not know if anything actually plays. Still in dmesg output
for various rawhide kernels I can find:

ALSA sound/pci/via82xx.c:580: codec_read: codec 0 is not valid [0xfe0000]
ALSA sound/pci/via82xx.c:580: codec_read: codec 0 is not valid [0xfe0000]
ALSA sound/pci/via82xx.c:580: codec_read: codec 0 is not valid [0xfe0000]
ALSA sound/pci/via82xx.c:580: codec_read: codec 0 is not valid [0xfe0000]

This does not look right; or actually it is expected and normal?
I do not recally seeing anything of that sort on machines not
running rawhide.

   Michal
