No, those are the same *symptom*, but probably different problems.

On my rawhide boxes, when gnome-session starts it gets an X Window  
System error:
The program 'gnome-session' received an X Window System error. This  
probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadWindow  
(invalid Window parameter)'.
(Details: serial 22 error_code 3 request_code 2 minor_code 0)

(that's from my .xsession-errors file)

Doesn't have anything to do with pressing a key. I'll file (or find)  
about this shortly.
