cannot print, something wrong with cups server

The printer here is /dev/bus/usb/001/004, freshly booted after yesterday's
updates for x86_64:

   [root at quelen mail]# ls -l /dev/bus/usb/001/004 
   crw-r--r-- 1 root root 189, 3 2008-01-23 09:15 /dev/bus/usb/001/004
   [root at quelen mail]# getfacl /dev/bus/usb/001/004
   getfacl: Removing leading '/' from absolute path names
   # file: dev/bus/usb/001/004
   # owner: root
   # group: root
   user::rw-
   group::r--
   other::r--

/dev/usb/lp0 shows exactly the same.
