Everything in GNOME and xorg.conf says pc105 - nary an evdev to be found.

That will be it - it's a Logitech DiNovo thing with a built-in track
pad. Interestingly, the track pad works now - it didn't a couple of
weeks ago. Is there a workaround for this one?
