firefox fails to run after the updates that came in

Dear all,

I have lost gnome, and in the process also lost 
firefox.  Here's what launching from command line
returns:

[olivares at localhost ~]$ firefox
Could not find compatible GRE between version 1.9b5
and 1.9b5.
[olivares at localhost ~]$
