Update:

Typing 'test pci/sd' at the ok prompt until it succeeds every time
will lead to a successful boot and so far uneventful desktop. James
noted that the Xfce team needed a leader, so I tried with an Xfce
livecd that I composed today :)  More stats on that to come in a
separate thread. :)
