k3b says it cannot find cdrdao, but cdrdao is present :(

Try without the "-" (i.e. "scanbus" instead of "-scanbus", exactly like 
in the printed help):

# cdrdao scanbus

Check http://cdrdao.sourceforge.net/drives.html#dt for current driver
