Nomodeset inop?

With today's rawhide, adding nomodeset to the
kernel command line doesn't seem to work.
The Gigabyte ga-ep45-ud3p with Nvidia 9600gt
still pops into a mode that my Dell 24 incher
cannot display on its DVI input.

Exactly where does "nomodeset" go?
