xsane just sits there, sucking up CPU

i'm still on f11 x86_64 beta, and i invoked xsane which, in its
initial dialog window, recognized my multi-function samsung laser
printer, but since then, "top" shows that it's just sucking up around
100% of the CPU but not displaying any further windows. is this a
known issue? i just fully updated. anything else i should be
checking? thanks.
