Where has soundcard control gone?

You could also try the new-school way of doing it, to make sure it works
for you (testing is useful) and also because it's much less likely to
make you want to stab your eyes out with a rusty spork than alsamixer
and gst-mixer are...

yum install pavucontrol
pavucontrol

go to the 'Configuration' tab
set the profile for your device; some of the choices should involve
'Output Analog Surround', pick whichever seems appropriate.

(I think the fact that your card defaults to outputting only through the
rear speakers is likely a bug in ALSA; you could file it, on the package
alsa-lib, including the output of 'alsa-info.sh --no-upload', and the
output of 'amixer -c0' before and after you fix it).
