...Well, so far no dice. I found a post on another forum on how to try
and force Workstation to use ALSA instead of OSS. I did the following:

installed the alsa-oss plugin (64-bit)
updated /etc/vmware/config with the line:
   preload = "/usr/lib64/libaoss.so

Didn't work. Any other ideas on how to make applications that demand
using OSS be able to output sound on F11?
