Making two keys with the same password will not produce two identical private/public key pairs. There's a random value used to compute those keys. The password is only used to unlock the key. Yes, you may. You should choose a letter that is important. (often the first letter of the word, but not always) And ideally you should check if there is no conflict with another letter in the same menu. (that's the hardest part). But with the recent gtk versions, if you do choose the same accellerator in one menu for two entries, you just press the letter repeatedly to go to the next one. Well ultimately, it's the translator that decides if a translation remains/becomes fuzzy or not. If you find incorrect translations, you should either correct them, or mark them as fuzzy (in wich case they won't be displayed in their translated form) But translated entries might become fuzzy 'automatically' if the original English message changes somewhat. (for example when a point get's removed or added at the end of a message, the entry will become fuzzy and the translator has to add or remove the point to their translation as well) Tino Meinen From baldrick at terra.es Sun Mar 7 15:53:51 2004 From: baldrick at terra.es (Josep Puigdemont) Date: Sun, 07 Mar 2004 16:53:51 +0100 Subject: initscripts In-Reply-To: <1077914903.22440.1959.camel@deimos> References: <1077914903.22440.1959.camel@deimos> Message-ID: <1078674831.1879.315.camel@deimos> Hi! A few days ago I was asking something in i18n list, but unfortunately the mail was so poorly written that no one answered. Let me try again =) I CC to fedora-devel-list at redhat.com because I think they might also be interested. When we have strings to translate which are part of a script (I believe in bash) like this one: #: /etc/rc.d/init.d/functions:441 msgid "Start service $1 (Y)es/(N)o/(C)ontinue? [Y] " how should be proceed in respect to the answers expected by the script? It seems that the script would expect either 'Y', 'N' or 'C'. Translating the string using as proposed answers the initial letters in our language for each word might break the script. I looked at the script and, unless I'm mistaken, it confirms that it is not prepared for localization: -------------------------------------------------------------------- # Confirm whether we really want to run this service confirm() { [ -x /usr/bin/rhgb-client ] && /usr/bin/rhgb-client --details=yes while : ; do echo -n $"Start service $1 (Y)es/(N)o/(C)ontinue? [Y] " read answer if strstr $"yY" "$answer" || [ "$answer" = "" ] ; then return 0 elif strstr $"cC" "$answer" ; then rm -f /var/run/confirm [ -x /usr/bin/rhgb-client ] && /usr/bin/rhgb-client --details=no return 2 elif strstr $"nN" "$answer" ; then return 1 fi done } -------------------------------------------------------------------- note: strstr is a function in that script that "returns OK if $1 contains $2". Would it be a good suggestion to make a translatable string called something like $YES that would hold the possible answers for Yes ("Yy")? (and same for No and Continue) I checked with other languages and all translate the string using that language's initial letters as possible answers. I'm a little bit puzzled since I think those translations will break the script, but I might be wrong, any ideas? I've filed https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=117708 The official writing of Malay use only ascii char, A to Z, a to z, doesnt even use extended latin char. No special font needed. I've made two scripts that I hope will help the managing of the .po and .pot files. I recommend to use it only if you are sure that the two files are out of sync, and that will use it only one preson per language. (maybe better if she is Sarah or other administrators). 1) The first script, named popotmerge wants to be started with the .po file you want to merge and MUST be executed from the directory from which you want the script searches for .po files. For example: cd /home/fede/fedora ./popotmerge it.po the script will search for all "it.po" and *.pot files starting from the current working directory (`pwd`) and merges they together. Actually you must have write permissions to /tmp directory (or you can change the variable value at the begin of the script with $HOME). 2) The second script, named pocvscommit wants to be started with the .po file you want to commit via CVS and MUST be executed from the same directory as the preview script. For example: cd /home/fede/fedora ./pocvscommit it.po the script will search for all "it.po" files and commit the changes to the CVS server. You must have your CVS variable environment correctly configured. ----- If you consider this message useful, and you was able to understand my poor guide, use it with care. To install: save the attachment and chmod +x popotmerge pocvscommit Ciao! Anaconda has had many string changes of the type: mention of tool "redhat-config-xxx" => mention of tool "system-config-xxx" mention of "Red Hat Linux" => mention of %s (which might be replaced by "Red Hat Linux" or "Fedora Core" by a compile time switch) Now all those string changes are reverted, at least in the anaconda po files, so we're back to square zero: anaconda happily tells users to use redhat-config-xxx tools, and calls the product "Red Hat Linux" in a hardcoded way. For a while it was on my todo list to automate the process a bit. "Translated messages" is whatever you choose - this informs other people what changes you have made to the files. Also, if you create new files that don't exist in cvs, you need to "add" them. cvs add yourfile.po will do this - you then need to commit in the same way. As you can see in shadow-utils package this option (-n) is only specific for red hat, so they (man-pages translators) cannot add this option. The redhat-menus translations do not use the .mo files (in fact they should not be shipped in the final package at all), the translations are merged in the .desktop files. You'll have to rebuild the package if you want to check the translations. The reason is a historical one. Most of the configuration tools were called redhat-config-something previously. They have been changed to system-config-something - only the POT name has been changed not the CVS directory name. The only exception is specspo module - the POT file is called dist.pot. Yes I agree with you that it would make a lot of sense to have consistent names across status page and CVS repository. Let's look at the list of translations on CVS, in redhat-menus/po: ar bn ca cs cy da de el es et fa fi fr hi hr hu is it ja ko ms nl no pa pl pt_BR pt ro ru sk sl sv ta tr uk vi zh_CN zh_TW zu Yes, that's 39 files, and all but two of them are 100% translated. Now let's look at the list of translations listed in redhat-menus/configure.in, ie. the translations that are actually packaged into the redhat-menus package: ALL_LINGUAS="cs cy da de el es fr is it ja ko ms nl no pt_BR pt ru sv tr zh_CN zh_TW" That's 21 files. So. This means that there are 18 languages that are not included in the final package. My translation, fi, has been in the CVS since June 2003. I don't know for how long have the other missing ones been in there. Scientifically this is not true, look at the following link: http://www.ethnologue.com/show_country.asp?name=Indonesia+%28Irian+Jaya%29 This number is dynamically of course and dependent on the amount of native speakers. If you count the value of your letters, if they even are IPA letters, up or down, left to right vice-versa is totally dependent of your culture. Eg. The ALL_LINGUAS variable in the configure.in file controls what in tarballs. Typically (well, at least in GNOME) translators add their language to the ALL_LINGUAS list when they consider their translation to be sufficiently mature that it should be shipped. Note that the additional requirement not stated here is that there needs to be a scalable font in the distribution with proper coverage for the locale; without that, it won't be enabled (as there's no point in letting the user choose a language that won't render. :) ) Bill From fed19 at xs4all.nl Wed Mar 31 20:25:37 2004 From: fed19 at xs4all.nl (Gertjan Vinkesteijn) Date: Wed, 31 Mar 2004 22:25:37 +0200 Subject: to whom it may concern Message-ID: <406B2941.5030602@xs4all.nl> Hello, I will change from provider address in august or so, but you can always drop mail at the @hotmail address below.
