Usually all messages. After using msgfmt and installing .mo files on my Fedora Core 1 distribution I have found that some messages are showing up not translated, even if they were traslated in .po file. For example in redhat-config-mouse, the help screen is displayed in English, instead of Polish. I have done translation using emacs, by editing a copy of .pot file. There were no error messages during generation of .mo file. Can somebody tell me what possibly is wrong? Message-ID: <200405021335.37136.rahal@arabeyes.org> -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, There have been recently a very astounding work realised on Fedora's Arabic translation (70% translated since March 12th, 35% translated the past week !). Arabic is now ranked before many languages supported in FC2 [1]. And it's actually very possible that before May 7th, a percentage of 95% (or even more) would be attained. Is it still realistic to ask for the inclusion of Arabic in FC2 ? If so, how and when this could be done (procedure to follow) ? I've already submitted a bug report about it in parallel [2]. Is there any possibility to include translations until May 7th too ? (In case we reach 100% for example ? :-) An inclusion in FC2 would be really nice and motivating for the people who participated in this huge effort [3]. Adding a language to the installer requires the addition of strings to support that language (ie, it would add the string "Arabic" which would then need to be translated into every other language). Additionally, especially with languages that use a different character set, I need a test release during which users of that language can ensure that things look okay as far as fonts and the like. You have to unpack the .src.rpm, put the file there, possibly modify LINGUAS or ALL_LINGUAS in configure.{in,ac}, rebuild the package with this modified tarball and install that. The translations are contained directly in the .desktop files. [Which BTW means that there is AFAICS no reason to ship the .mo files in redhat-menus]. (for example if you want to translate the module anaconda the file is translate/anaconda/anaconda-po/sq.po ) Chose a module and you can start translating. Here (http://elvis.redhat.com/cgi-bin/i18n-status) you can see that Albanian has already been added to Fedora languages but no translation has been done yet. Firstly check if there is anyone else working on Albanian Fedora translations. I'd guess the Gnome albanian translators would know (or are you one of them ?) It is important any translation of configuration tools at least follows the choices of words made by the desktop translators. After that apply for a translator cvs account and check out the module "translate". This is the translation data in standard .po file format. The best way to get this capability included in Fedora would be to get the changes incorporated into the version of the fonts that Valek Filippov maintains (ftp://ftp.gnome.ru/fonts/urw/release/). That's fine. It's nothing particularly urgent... we're just in the final stages of the freeze for Fedora Core 2, so it won't make that. Unfortunately, in doing so, I'm going to have to somewhat break existing checkouts :( With the new setup, you'll get the following: * cvs co anaconda will give you the full anaconda source tree * cvs co po_anaconda will give you the po directory from anaconda in an anaconda dir * cvs co anaconda-help will get you the anaconda-help stuff So, if you have an existing checkout with no existing changes, the easiest thing to do will probably be to just do fresh checkouts. If you have outstanding changes, doing mv anaconda anaconda.old cvs co po_anaconda anaconda-help cp anaconda.old/anaconda-po/* anaconda/ cp anaconda.old/anaconda-online-help/* anaconda-help/ should copy over everything I think. I'll try to look at writing the script to convert a current checkout to the new layout over the weekend or the start of next week, but figured I'd go ahead and send this much. Once I'm finished moving things around, I'll send a message here. Until then, check-ins to anaconda are highly not recommended. Thanks and sorry for the short notice. But this should make the process significantly better for everyone so that we can have even better translations for FC3. I have created redhat-dist.mo from hu.po, and copied it to /usr/share/locale/hu/LC_MESSAGES/ Now running system-config-packages, I see some untranslated string (for example xorg*, system*, etc. packages that are missing from the PO file). Actually the dist.pot file seems to be from 2003-07-15, and has not been updated since then. I thought of writing a bug report, but I found one http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=107393 from 2003-10-17. Does anybody know what is happening on this subject? I'll do it as soon as I'm through everything with a higher priority, i.e. things rated critical. My apologies for the delay.
