Have I done anything wrong? If so, I'm sorry. It's not you Jose. Last night the wiki suffered a disk crash and had to be restored this morning from a daily backup. Some material from 3 August was lost. There's a note on the front page at http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraMain this morning to that effect. Sometimes PO files are updated, but there are lots of a files that are out dated, as we can see from entries count. There are quite a lot of mismatching entries. Also, what happens with PO files (and its translation) if POT is updated, but PO is not. Ie: I've checked fr_FR page. There I saw that release notes got about 60 entries more that on Croatian page. Croatian PO was not updated (OK, this part of problem I've solved). But, if I overlooked that (and few other files that were 100% translated BEFORE updating them with latest POT), in what manner (how) would such PO files are to be introduced into distribution? Another example: Current Croatian file "summary" is at 100% with 2145 entries. I've updated local copy with latest POT. Now I have 2174 entries (20 more), but about 120 fuzzy, and 30 untranslated. (I haven't commited new PO yet) How is this particular file going to be introduced? - as 2145 translated + 20 untranslated, or - 2174 entries, 120 fuzzy, 30 untranslated Again I have to ask for an automatic notification system of new entries in PO/POT files. In-Reply-To: <44EDC3CA.30309@redhat.com> References: <44EDC3CA.30309@redhat.com> Message-ID: Hi, Are there any guidelines regarding terms that are not to be translated, or if they are to translate, how to do that. Ex: - Fedora People - Fedora Project - any other item with term "Fedora" and following or preceeding word in title case. Some companies that I worked for (as translator) demanded to keep stuff like that in original english. But if to translate, due to language rules (not so many title cases) I cannot write: "Fedora Project" It has to look more like: "The project of Fedora" Especially: "Fedora Legacy Project" - "The project of Fedora's legacy" Commonly, "Fedora Core" is not translated at all, hence above questions. Crimean and Idil-Ural (Qazan) Tatar are very close, dialects really, but have different language codes probably mostly for political reasons. iqte is a modifier signifying a version of Latin-based Tatar alphabet: ?QTElif (in English: IQTElif). I assume that (a.) a modifier can only be used if a region code is used, and that (b.) a region code that is not in ISO 3166 would not be acceptable, and even if accepted that it would not be a good idea, as it might not be accepted elsewhere. Feedback on this would be welcome. P.S. I'm not sure at the moment where a distro-based localization's niche is. I suspect it might not be that big, if the original apps are already localized. But i guess there will be some fedora-specific code to l10n/i18n, and possibly standardized access to i18n various apps. Is there a way one can get a .po file for a fedora package if he/she doesn't have a CVS account? Other projects (like GNOME, KDE) allow people having anonymous CVS access to the po files (or at least they include a link to the .po file from the package's statistics page) and to submit a patch they have to contact the project's translation team. A feature like this is useful for translation bugfixing from people outside the project. -dim -- Dimitris Glezos Jabber ID: glezos at jabber.org, PGP: 0xA5A04C3B http://dimitris.glezos.com/ "He who gives up functionality for ease of use loses both and deserves neither."
