Questions about specspo/desc

Hi,
I'm currently translating specspo/desc, and was wondering why every
msgid (and as a result every msgstr) does begin with a blank line...
BTW, why does the translator have to deal with all those \n ?
Shouldn't word wrapping be the job of the application ? This remark
apply to other files as well.
