It is interesting that you interpret the completely polite phrase "Thanks in advance" as an insult. > Everybody who answer my question have my thanks. > That is respect. No, "thanks" is only a word. If you automatically say that to everyone who helps you on the list, how sincere are you really? Do you really express your gratitude, or just say it to look grateful. And how can the reader distinguish true gratitude from pretty words without deeper meaning? Also, I don't think there is any reason to think a person receiving help would not be grateful, or would want to show disrespect by not explicitly saying "thanks." The problem with the "thanks" messages is that their informational value is zero, and still every list member receives them, and must spend time reading them. Imagine what would mailing lists be like, if everyone receiving help would thank each helper separately once per question. Approximately 50 per cent of all the messages on the list would be one-liners with someone saying "thanks" to someone else. It would be an annoyance to find the messages with real content from that haystack. Besides, shouldn't everyone receiving "thanks" also reply "you're welcome" to show proper respect? Yes, that's why I haven't commited the updated POT file, nor the translations of the others languages; i'm not sure if I have commit rights for makefiles, though. Anyway, updating the PO against the attached POT will do the work for now. I've also noticed there are strings not marked for translation on the source code that are likely to be translatable: passwordDialog.py:141 self.msgLabel.set_text("The two fields did not match. Please try \nagain:") passwordDialog.py:189 self.securityBar.set_text("Security Level: Strong") passwordDialog.py: 228 self.securityTooltips.set_tip(self.passwordEntry, "Remember that your password should have at least 6 characters in length") And I'm sorry, but I'm too busy translating Fedora docs and I can't send bug reports or patches for this; hope the list mantainer can do it. Welcome to the team. Take a look at http://docs.fedoraproject.org/translation-quick-start-guide/en/sn_accounts.html. There you will find information about how to request CVS access for PO translation. However, take into account that in the next months, all translations will be hosted on a different system; you will have to get an account on cvs.fedoraproject.org. This page describes the steps in order to get cvs access there and some additional accounts (bugzilla, wiki, etc.): http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/L10N/Join http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DocsProject/Translation Also, you will have to request access to 'cvsdocs' in order to localize some other documentation elements. I've just posted a new update of statistics for today (2007-05-08, 14:17 UTC). Your "homepage" PO has a couple fuzzy strings you might want to look at since there are a couple of days left before the deadline. As of right now, here are the languages that are complete enough for release in the various modules. If your locale is marked with a "*" it means your translation is not complete, and your team may want to try to finish it before the deadline if possible. about-fedora: ca el es fi fr it nl pa pl pt_BR pt sr sv uk zh_CN homepage: ca* el es fi fr it nl pa pl pt_BR pt sr sv uk zh_CN readme: bn_IN* ca el es fr it nl pa pl pt_BR pt sr sv uk zh_CN readme-burning-isos: el es fr it nl pl pt_BR pt sr sv uk zh_CN release-notes: el es fi it pt_BR pt sr& sv uk zh_CN -- Paul W. Don't hesitate to ask any question! Sorry for duplication to common readers.) I'm translating messages and docs into Japanese these three weeks or so. I've translated "about-fedora", "homepage", "readme", and "readme-burning-isos". (At the starting, the scores were 1/8/31, 11/2/24, 1/9/54, and 54/34/10) Now, I'm suffering to translate "release-notes". There are so many fuzzies and untranslateds. I've been checking from the web page: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DocsProject/Translation/Statistics but currently, it does not show translation statistics of Japanese release-notes. So, I copied and modified the shell script on the web page and executed, but it shows: ja: /396/ /396/34/ /397/ /3/ just like at 09:10 in "FDSCo Meeting 2007-05-12 IRC log" saying the statistics of homepage-ja. The first scores I logged were 112/195/233/ and, the last scores showed on the web page were 146/170/224. Now, those are 197/160/183 or so, I think. I'm not so familiar with cvs command. How do I get the correct statistics? Thanks in advance. p.s. I'm new to translate on Fedora Project, and made some handing errors. --> Thanks Paul W. Frields for correctings. Check this page, you don't need anything special but a cvs application: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DocsProject/CvsUsage Also, I think the information on these pages is incomplete, because you also have to export CVS_RSH environment variable. If CVS fails with: cvs [checkout aborted]: cannot exec rsh: No such file or directory then you will have to export CVS_RSH variable also. For instance, do the following on the command line: CVSROOT=:ext:mcisback at cvs.fedoraproject.org:/cvs/docs CVS_RSH=ssh export CVSROOT CVS_RSH Also, you should request membership to cvsdocs group, since docs-common module contains some mandatory files to be created, and you will need membership on cvsdocs group in order to create them (you don't need cvsdocs membership if they exist for your language). See also http://docs.fedoraproject.org/translation-quick-start-guide/en/sn_translating_docs.html. I've added som good resources at the end of this mail. If you want to translate the software, your CVSROOT should be: :ext:mcisback at i18n.redhat.com:/usr/local/CVS If you want to translate the documentation, your CVSROOT should be :ext:mcisback at cvs.fedoraproject.org:/cvs/docs In both cases you should do export CVS_RSH=ssh aswell Hope this helps, Bart -- Links -- http://docs.fedoraproject.org/translation-quick-start-guide/ Translation Quick Start Guide http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/L10N/Join http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/DocsProject/Join -- Bart key fingerprint: 6AAB 544D 3432 D013 776D 3602 ADB6 6B2A D93F 0F93 -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
