Loop detection is included in 0.5.9. Current stable Fedora versions are based on 0.6.2 (F-8) and 0.8.1 (F-9), hence include the fix. Btw: (In reply to comment #6) > Changelog for poppler-0.5.4-8.fc7 (the same code base) lists explicitely > CVE-2007-3387 (#248194), CVE-2007-4352 (#345101), > CVE-2007-5392 (#345111), CVE-2007-5393 (#345121) > but for poppler-0.6.2-1.fc8 not even that. IIRC, poppler was re-based to fixed upstream version in F-8 without fixes for those being mentioned in the RPM changelog. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is. Only nscd does. The overhead is simply to high. If somehow the program starts up when no /etc/resolv.conf file exists something like described in the comments happens. It might be worthwhile to determine when /etc/resolv.conf was read and why it wasn't there. There is one alternative. Programs can invalidate their resolver setting by calling _res_init(). This has to be done by the program itself? Does cups do this? When? I don't think there is anything wrong in glibc. Works for me also with F9, 1400x1050 at 24bpp, but performance is so slow that it is not usable. With F7 I could run the same resolution, but at 16bpp and the response was great. Under F9, if I try running at 16bpp Desktop Effects cannot be enabled. Those two errors are about data_start and __data_start, which are two symbols with the same value/section (aliases defined together). It looks like there is an ld bug here. The st_value of data_start is not plausible. It's supposed to be the beginning of .data, but there is no .data section at all. If there were, I'm sure it would have st_align=8, so that would not be its address. Somehow these symbols have ended up pointing to the .got section but with an address that's 4 bytes before .got (and thus misaligned). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug. Michael Petullo 2008-08-13 14:10:55 EDT --- Is anyone using the PowerPC port anymore? Is anyone using Fedora on Apple laptops? This bug was reported, with a solution in 2004. Since then, the solution has been changed to address concerns voiced in the comments above. Until this is fixed, GNOME is difficult to use on Apple laptops without plugging in an external, multi-button mouse. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug. Any progress, or should I just assume it may not be fixed for many more months, internally document, and add to the test case matrix? I know RH and GNU folk are busy, but I am too. After three months, I have to get off the dime. Changed version to 8, as that's verified here, and I don't want this thought of as some future thing about rawhide. The problem is right here, right now, as a verifiable flaw in RHEL 5 and Fedora 8. Would it speed the process in the future if I reported problems with the GNU userland via Savannah? I just want the fastest means to resolve the problem. Perhaps upstream should have been the way to go. I assumed (yes, I know that stale joke) that you guys had streamlined channels into the GNU org. Guidance would be appreciated. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug. He said that the behaviour is correct and will not change and the only change could be in documentation - to clarify what missing subdir means or to choose different example of exit code 1 - and that he is not going to change it but will accept documentation patch to clarify that behaviour. I was not sure how to improve the documentation to make it clear and short and had some other issues with higher priority. Red Hat Bugzilla is usually the best way - as some things are a bit different in Red Hat version of coreutils (most differences in PAM and SELinux). I'm always informing Jim about new bugzillas which are relevant for upstream. You are right that three months are quiet a long time. This behaviour is expected - but we agreed to improve documentation. Documentation improvement will of course get into Fedora... but as it could be good to clarify it for RHEL-5 as well, I mentioned RHEL-5.3 update as well. > Also keep in mind that F8 will only be maintained until 1 month after the GA of > Fedora 10. Of course firecontrol and gscanbus won't be able to communicate with nodes whose permissions are still the default strict ones, but this may be considered a feature rather than a bug. A problem is that the firewire-core sysfs interface does not export any hint whatsoever whether a node is a local node or not. An udev rule like SUBSYSTEM=="firewire", ATTR{vendor_name}=="Linux Firewire", [...] will catch local nodes, but also remote nodes if they ran Linux/Juju. Of course security of remote Linux nodes is the business of the remote node's stack, not the local kernel's or userland's task. Anyway; the glass-half-full message here is that we _can_ keep access to SBP-2 devices disabled (if we don't count hypothetical Linux/Juju nodes running SBP-2 target software) and still get existing libraw1394 clients going --- we just need to open up the local node for user access. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug. In cupsd.conf we have: MaxJobs 0 PreserveJobFiles On and a daily cron script that purges jobs 14 days old. On average we have 17,000 jobs in history. Using the web interface if we click "Show all jobs" the cupsd process will hug 100% of the CPU (1 core out of four) for 260 seconds (~4.5 minutes)! During this time clients submitting print jobs (via lp) hang (the lp command doesn't fail), print jobs are not sent to idle/ready printers. The same behavior is exhibited with commands such: lpstat -Wall -u or lpstat -Wall -o MyPrinter Thanks, Opher Shachar, LADPC Ltd. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 1.2.12-1 How reproducible: Very. Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual results: Expected results: Additional info: --- Additional comment from twaugh at redhat.com on 2007-12-14 11:42:06 EDT --- I have not yet been able to reproduce the problem here. There is a large delay when fetching information for jobs where which-jobs=all, and this is due to the fact that CUPS must load the completed jobs from the file system each time this operation is performed. However, during this delay cupsd is not processor-bound but disc-bound (i.e. usually state 'D' in the output of ps, not 'R'). May I ask what MIME file types your print jobs are? For instance, what output does this command give, when run as root?: ls -1 /var/spool/cups/d* | head -n1 | xargs file The reason I ask is that when CUPS loads the completed jobs it seems to perform automatic file-type detection in some cases, and I wonder if that's the case here. --- Additional comment from ophers at ladpc.co.il on 2007-12-16 05:21:53 EDT --- Hi, The vast majority of print files are prd:/var/spool/cups# find . -name "d*" | sort | head -n2 | xargs file ./d96486-001: ISO-8859 text ./d96487-001: ISO-8859 text, with escape sequences If it's relevant, some of the files are large 7MB+. (incidentally, ls -1 d* | head -n1 | xargs file gives: d96486-001: ERROR: cannot open `d96486-001' (No such file or directory) ) We've tried lowering the number of files by deleting files older than 7 then 6,5... days old from /var/spool/cups, after each time running: service cups reload we noticed the time the CPU spent at 100% decreasing from 130 seconds, for 9600 jobs, to 17 seconds for 1309 jobs. Also as we lowered the number of files, cupsd was sending ready print jobs to printers (top showed entries of backends) but, still, new job submissions - using lp - hang while cupsd was at 100%. We set MaxJobs=1000 in cupsd.conf and restarted cups (after work hours) service cups restart the response, to lpstat -Wall -o, now was instantaneous (I had expected a 4 second delay). It is running for 2.5 days now (with MaxJobs=1000) and the problem did not reappear. Obviously we can't have our production system slagging neither is limiting the history to 1000 jobs too great. So, we're still in need for a solution. Sincerely, Opher Shachar, LADPC Ltd. --- Additional comment from twaugh at redhat.com on 2007-12-17 09:51:16 EDT --- Changing version to 7. Fedora Core 6 has reached its end-of-life; however this problem remains in (at least) Fedora 7. --- Additional comment from fedora-triage-list at redhat.com on 2008-05-14 11:09:27 EDT --- This message is a reminder that Fedora 7 is nearing the end of life. Approximately 30 (thirty) days from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 7. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '7'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 7's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 7 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora please change the 'version' of this bug. If you are unable to change the version, please add a comment here and someone will do it for you. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete. If possible, it is recommended that you try the newest available Fedora distribution to see if your bug still exists. Please read the Release Notes for the newest Fedora distribution to make sure it will meet your needs: http://docs.fedoraproject.org/release-notes/ The process we are following is described here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping --- Additional comment from twaugh at redhat.com on 2008-05-14 11:25:23 EDT --- Changing version to '8'. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug. Current info page says: 0 success 1 minor problems (e.g., a subdirectory was not found) 2 serious trouble (e.g., memory exhausted) How about: Exit status is 0 if OK. 1 if minor problems, e.g. failure to stat a non-command line file or directory. 2 if serious trouble, e.g. failure to stat a command line argument, an out of memory failure, etc. Both info and man pages would have to changed. I still think that the comments in the source are misleading, as per my comment #3. Not fixing comments is an invitation to regression, *clearly* makes reporting bugs more difficult, etc. But I have to pick my battles, and I'm hoping to get another submission in on man(5) yum.conf. That's a philosophical distinction. To me, an important measure of software quality lies in whether it runs as it's documented to run. A flaw in docs, whether external to the sources, such as man pages, or internal, such as comments, can cause a lot of man-hour wastage. You can't quantify that, as you can have no idea of some random end-user's circumstances. I regard any flaw in a shipping package as a bug, as it's a potentially serious disservice to that random end-user. If you want to have that discussion, we'd best take it off-line. We seem to have very different ideas about quality. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug. Maybe it is possible to incorporate this solution into rawhide? To install it one should: 1. Remove everything from Fedora regarding compiz # yum -y remove compiz 2. Download compiz-fusion repository from eg. http://www.linux-ati-drivers.homecall.co.uk/compiz-fusion-release-1-5.noarch.rpm 3. Install repo # rpm -Uvh compiz-fusion-release-1-5.noarch.rpm 4. Insatall from compiz-fusion repo a) for GNOME: # yum -y install compiz-gnome fusion-icon-gtk compiz-fusion-plugins-unsupported compiz-fusion-plugins-extra compiz-bcop ccsm emerald-themes compizconfig-backend-gconf b) for KDE: yum -y install compiz-kde fusion-icon-qt compiz-fusion-plugins-unsupported compiz-fusion-plugins-extra compiz-bcop ccsm emerald-themes compizconfig-backend-kconfig 5. To run Compiz efects one should run "Compiz Fusion Icon", from "Application" > "Stystem tools" every time he starts Gnome. Optionaly he could write fusion-icon into "System" > "Preferences" > "Personal" > "Sessions" If there are problems (eg. white screen) when starting Compiz Fusion Icon, it means that graphics card does not have full direct rendering, and choosing "Indirect rendering" from "Compiz Fusion Icon" > "Compiz Options", fixes the problem. 6. Everything works fine from now! There is an extensive configuration avaliable from Compiz Fusion Icon located on notification area. Modify vgrename to have a "--force" option on it and allow renames into duplicate VG names. I don't entirely like this idea, but it's relatively simple to implement in the code from what I can tell. I'm not sure of all potential side-effects yet (e.g. cluster?) The change is not ideal, but allows us to do a sequence like the following. 1. Use vgrename to map the duplicate xen domU VG (e.g. VolGroup00) to a temporary name, using the 'uuid' of the VG 2. Activate the VG, mount LVs, do maintenance, etc 3. Unmount the LVs, deactivate the VG 4. Rename the VG back to the original name. Currently we allow vgrename away from duplicate VG names, but not back. The current situation is not good because you can get yourself into a situation where you can't get back to a bootable system very easily (step #4 above will fail). I am looking at alternatives of using the UUID to disambiguate the LV / dm target names but right now that is looking more involved. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
