All additional comments should be made in the comments box of this bug. Summary: stuck grab https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=465154 Summary: stuck grab Product: Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Version: 5.3 Platform: All OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: high Priority: low Component: NetworkManager AssignedTo: dcbw at redhat.com ReportedBy: zcerza at redhat.com QAContact: desktop-bugs at redhat.com CC: cra at wpi.edu, wtogami at redhat.com, dcbw at redhat.com, zcerza at redhat.com, fedora-triage-list at redhat.com Depends on: 353451 Classification: Red Hat +++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #353451 +++ Description of problem: While I had the left-click menu open for nm-applet, the 'Enter the password to unlock your keyring' dialog popped up - I was then unable to either focus to dismiss the menu, or focus the entry of the dialog to enter the passphrase. Switching to a VT and killing nm-applet unstuck things. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): NetworkManager-0.7.0-0.3.svn3020.fc8 gnome-keyring-2.20.1-3.fc8 --- Additional comment from wtogami at redhat.com on 2007-10-25 23:54:53 EDT --- notting, are you running compiz? In my experience, the dialog is indeed grabbing, but also compiz is improperly layering the windows, making it impossible to type into the dialog. --- Additional comment from notting at redhat.com on 2007-10-26 11:34:26 EDT --- No, not running compiz. --- Additional comment from cra at wpi.edu on 2007-10-29 13:05:06 EDT --- Running compiz here, same problem. NetworkManager-0.7.0-0.5.svn3030.fc8 gnome-keyring-2.20.1-3.fc8 compiz-0.6.2-2.fc8 --- Additional comment from fedora-triage-list at redhat.com on 2008-04-04 10:17:24 EDT --- Based on the date this bug was created, it appears to have been reported during the development of Fedora 8. In order to refocus our efforts as a project we are changing the version of this bug to '8'. If this bug still exists in rawhide, please change the version back to rawhide. (If you're unable to change the bug's version, add a comment to the bug and someone will change it for you.) Thanks for your help and we apologize for the interruption. The process we're following is outlined here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/F9CleanUp We will be following the process here: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping to ensure this doesn't happen again. --- Additional comment from zcerza at redhat.com on 2008-10-01 16:19:56 EDT --- Still in rawhide, but killing either nm-applet or metacity did not help. Detailed Description [SELinux is in permissive mode, the operation would have been denied but was permitted due to permissive mode.] The epiphany application attempted to make its stack executable. This is a potential security problem. This should never ever be necessary. Stack memory is not executable on most OSes these days and this will not change. Executable stack memory is one of the biggest security problems. An execstack error might in fact be most likely raised by malicious code. Applications are sometimes coded incorrectly and request this permission. The SELinux Memory Protection Tests web page explains how to remove this requirement. If epiphany does not work and you need it to work, you can configure SELinux temporarily to allow this access until the application is fixed. Please file a bug report against this package. Allowing Access Sometimes a library is accidentally marked with the execstack flag, if you find a library with this flag you can clear it with the execstack -c LIBRARY_PATH. Then retry your application. If the app continues to not work, you can turn the flag back on with execstack -s LIBRARY_PATH. Otherwise, if you trust epiphany to run correctly, you can change the context of the executable to unconfined_execmem_exec_t. "chcon -t unconfined_execmem_exec_t '/usr/bin/epiphany'" You must also change the default file context files on the system in order to preserve them even on a full relabel. "semanage fcontext -a -t unconfined_execmem_exec_t '/usr/bin/epiphany'" Fix Command chcon -t unconfined_execmem_exec_t '/usr/bin/epiphany' Additional Information Source Context:??unconfined_u:unconfined_r:unconfined_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023 Target Context:??unconfined_u:unconfined_r:unconfined_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023 Target Objects:??None [ process ] Source:??epiphany Source Path:??/usr/bin/epiphany Port:?? To me, it definitely looks like a good solution, though I admit I haven't looked at its API and I'm not a crypto expert at all. Old icon themes work less well with every new GNOME release because of changing icon naming specs of the GNOME default theme. It seems that pre-2.24 versions of gconf-editor, the folder icon was addressed by the application using an absolute icon path whereas the latest 2.24 version appears to have dropped the path prefix making it behave correctly now. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug. Hmm... but looking at the generated man page, I saw ugly formatting. So I've just checked in another change to fix that. Here's what I see now: $ nroff -man man/ls.1|grep -B1 -A7 'if OK' Exit status: 0 if OK, 1 if minor problems (e.g., failure to access a file or directory not specified as a command line argument, 2 if serious trouble (e.g., memory exhausted, invalid option or failure to access a file or directory specified as a command line argument). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug. That's the script that runs each program with the --help option, reads the output, then takes that and possibly other inputs and outputs troff for the man page. For actual code, see the rule in man/Makefile.am that creates prog.1 from prog.x (.x.1:). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug. Changing tab in firefox 3 needs 2 s cpu time, of which >90% of CPU time is spent in libexa.so functions exaOffscreenAlloc and exaOffscreenFree. What you are seeing here are 2 different problems: 1) The device name of iscsi disks is not stable This is not something which we are going to fix, with things like usb disks, motherboard with a zillion sata connectors, etc. device names will not be stable. This is the new dynamic hotplug / udev Linux world. Solution: use a label or uuid for / 2) mkinitrd resolves a label / uuid to a device name and puts this in the initrd, given 1) we really should stop doing this. I think we've not stopped doing this thus far, because the rootdev option to mkrootdev (in the ramdisk init script) gets ignored when a root= parameter gets passed to the kernel, and by default (when using grub) we always pass a root= parameter, so the rootdev parameter in the initscript doesn't matter much in the default case. I believe thus that this bug should be renamed: "mkrootdev gets passed /dev/foo as rootdev while root should be found by LABEL or UUID" Peter do you agree? In the mean time you should be able to fix the issue reported here by passing root=LABEL=somelabel to the kernel when booting. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug. As you noted in comment #13, NetApp filers only send NLM callbacks over UDP, so on FC-9, you would need to add something like lockd.nlm_udpport=40000 (or some other unused port number) to your grub.conf's kernel boot parameters. The scenario is to run about 5 processes of the demo program at the same time. When the first lock is released the processes waiting for the lock don't necessarily acquire the now-freed lock. So far I have only managed to reproduce this behaviour on a single processor machine which may or may not be significant. I am afraid I still haven't had a close enough look at the code to work out what is happening. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug. To make this possible in some sane manner we need a way to ask iscsiadm which device node / number the iscsi subsystem has gotten / given to a certain target. Even better would be a feature where iscsiadm on login would print the device name to stdout once the login completes. Actually having iscsiadm print the devicename it has gotten for a disk after login would be absolutely great to have for anaconda too. Currently we're going through much pain in anaconda to find a disk after we've logged in to the iscsi target, and even when we've got a disk we do not know which disks corresponds to which iscsi target. I like the idea of iscsiadm login printing the device node for the disk after login so much I'll file an RFE against iscsi-initiator-utils right away. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug. What seems to have been happening in my tests were that once the lock was released locally the other processes tried to get a lock and were of course blocked, the netapp box releases the freed lock grants a new one but can't tell the appropriate process. From then on, as the lock attempt that has unknowingly succeeded times out, the lock gets passed unknowingly to another queuing process, so the lock attempts never succeed. So yes, provided the linux box is listening on UDP the locking seems to work correctly now, but otherwise there is still the potential for competing locks not to be granted to a process. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
